4. The Incredulity of Thomas

The Apostle Thomas was not there when Jesus came the first time. The disciples told him: "We have seen the Lord." Thomas replied: "If I do not see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the mark of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." Eight days later, Jesus appeared to them again and said to Thomas: "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and put it into my side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing." Thomas said: "My Lord and my God!" Jesus answered: "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
